About Gamma Phi Beta

Gamma Phi Beta was the first female organization and coined the term sorority. It was founded in 1874 by Helen M. Dodge, Frances E. Haven, E. Adeline Curtis and Mary A. Bingham at Syracuse University in New York in an effort to create a welcoming environment for women in college during a time when it was looked down upon. Today, there are over 224 thousand members internationally who are continuing the legacy built by our founders.

About Gamma Phi Beta: About

Our Mission Statement and Core Values

Our mission is to build confident women of character who celebrate sisterhood and make a difference in the world around us and to inspire the highest type of womanhood through our core values of love, labor, learning, and loyalty.

There are many reasons women choose to join Gamma Phi Beta, but probably the most common is for the lifetime bond of sisterhood that Gamma Phi Beta creates. But Gamma Phi Beta is so much more than sisterhood, and in the Epsilon Psi chapter, we create an environment that pushes our sisters to succeed in every aspect of their life. We take our academics very seriously and have a host of opportunities to help our sisters succeed. And lastly, we also provide many volunteer opportunities to get involved in the community beyond Gamma Phi and the UNCA campus through our philanthropic partner, Girls On The Run. Even after college, Gamma Phi Beta continues to be there to help our members succeed through networking opportunities and alumnae chapters.
